Opposing Luton Airport expansion

As constituents may know, I have consistently challenged the over-rapid growth of Luton Airport since its expansion permission in 2013, and opposed its application to increase the passenger limit and noise footprint beyond what was originally agreed to apply until 2028.

Last month I was pleased to have secured the Secretary of State’s agreement to call in the plans to expand London Luton Airport to 19 million passengers per annum.

I sat down with a constituent to speak about the disturbance caused to local people in Hitchin & Harpenden by aircraft movements related to Luton Airport.

I spoke with Cllr Richard Roberts, the Leader of Hertfordshire County Council, about the now called in plans to expand London Luton Airport to 19 million passengers per annum.

This week I received further details from The Planning Inspectorate about the public inquiry which will take place after Luton Airport’s plans to expand to 19 million passengers per annum were called in by the Secretary of State. I have included those details below.

It is fantastic news that plans to expand London Luton Airport to 19 million passengers per annum were called in to be decided by the Secretary of State this week.

This week I received a letter from local campaign group LADACAN detailing a number of concerns and some questions for the Secretary of State for Transport about Luton Airport expansion.

I joined local campaigners against Luton Airport’s planned expansion to 32 million passengers per annum at Luton Rising’s consultation meeting in Harpenden.

Luton Rising have now begun consulting on a proposal to expand London Luton Airport from 18 million passengers per annum to 32 million passengers per annum.

This week I have had meetings with both Luton Rising and the campaign groups in the constituency who are fighting against expansion. I am clear that plans to expand to 32 million passengers per annum would have a significant negative impact on local communities in our constituency.
