Protecting access to cash and banking services in Harpenden

Bim meeting with a financial services company

Having access to cash and in-person banking services is vitally important to communities like Harpenden. With a number of recent High Street banking closures, residents have told Bim how vital it is that we secure the long-term future of in-person banking services in Harpenden.

Working with the local community, Bim is campaigning for a new Harpenden Banking Hub to be included in the Public Halls redevelopment. This development presents a unique opportunity to deliver a community facility, owned by the public, in the centre of Harpenden.  Here we can protect banking services in person, not just online.

Bim is also working with industry and Government Ministers to ensure that we protect and improve banking services and access to cash through the forthcoming Financial Markets and Services Bill. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Financial Markets & Services, he is chairing a Commission into the role of financial services in Levelling Up that aims to secure industry support for protecting access to cash and personal banking services.
