I am extremely proud to be a member of the new APPG on Chalk Streams, a grouping which brings together parliamentary supporters of chalk streams to champion their biodiversity through promoting environmental good practice, centred on sustainable flows and sensitive land management. The UK is home to over 85% of the world’s chalk streams. We are lucky to have a number of these in Hertfordshire, including the Ver, Mimram, Lea, Misbourne, Gade, Beane and Bulbourne.
I welcome that the APPG will seek to ensure that in chairing COP26, the UK places chalk streams on the international environmental agenda - we must do more to support this unique ecosystem.
