On Friday, I arranged for the Department for Education and Hertfordshire County Council to visit our constituency to discuss funding for our rural primary schools (and funding more generally) and provide support to our local primary school headteachers. I feel very passionately about supporting our rural schools who do an outstanding job in serving local villages communities. The local school is often at the heart of the community. We also discussed teacher recruitment and retention, resources for children with SEN, and mental health. I was pleased by the efforts that the Department for Education & Hertfordshire County Council made in attempting to address these concerns and answers crucial questions. Lots of work still needs to be done on this matter and I will be making the case to the Chancellor on increasing expenditure on education in the upcoming Spending Review.
