I am delighted that our schools in Hitchin and Harpenden will receive an increase of 4.52% per pupil in school funding in 2020-21. I have been campaigning for increased school resources since I was elected in 2017 – indeed I made my maiden speech calling for it. I know that this money is needed and will be used wisely. This funding boost is within the first year alone, and we can expect to see two more guaranteed years of school funding rises, which we expect to be of a similar scale.
This is part of the Government’s significant total additional investment of £14bn across three years, to schools up and down the country. This funding is in addition to the £1.5bn per year that will continue to be provided to fund additional pension costs for teachers over the next three years. It is also in addition to the extra £780m to be received by special schools and alternative provisions for children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) in the next year.
