Rural Primary Schools are at the heart of our constituency and the heart of many small villages. Recently I had senior officials from the Department for Education meet with representatives from Herts County Council to discuss how we can protect our rural schools.
The first issue we discussed was funding. I’ve been very clear that we need more funding for our primary schools and for the education system more generally.
The second issue was around our curriculum. Maths and English is critically important and it’s right we focus on them. However we have to maintain a broad based curriculum so we don;t narrow opportunites down for children at a young age.
Both of these things I’m pushing for with the Government and as we come up to the next spending review and I’m going to be saying that education funding should be one of our top priorities.
