As you may know, health officials have confirmed that a Hertfordshire patient has tested positive for COVID-19 infection (Coronavirus). Public Health England (PHE) has been working closely with NHS colleagues and Hertfordshire County Council to manage the situation and help reduce the risk of further cases.
As I understand, the infected patient attended an appointment at Davenport House in Harpenden. All other patients that were in the surgery at the time have been contacted and it has now been deep cleaned following Public Health Guidelines. I am meeting with the Health Secretary **this evening** to discuss this further.
Today, the Prime Minister will chair a COBR (Cobra) meeting and alongside the Health Secretary will launch a battle plan on the coronavirus outbreak, as part of the Government’s plans to prepare for all eventualities and keep the British public safe.
We are well prepared for the virus with world leading scientists – and are well placed to prepare for every eventuality. The UK is one of the first countries to have developed a world-leading test for the new coronavirus, and the NHS is ready to respond appropriately to any cases that emerge. However, every single person has a role to play in helping to manage the spread of the virus by regularly washing their hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel. If you think you might have coronavirus, do NOT go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone and follow professional advice.
