Earlier this week I asked Jeremy Hunt, the Foreign Secretary, about what action this Government is taking to lead the international effort to tackle climate change.
On Monday, Parliament unanimously voted for a target to make the UK carbon neutral by 2050 – the most ambitious target for any developed economy anywhere in the world.
However, the UK contributes just about 2% of the world’s climate emissions, and so it is vital that we lead the international effort to encourage other nations to follow our lead.
I’m delighted that the Foreign Secretary recognised the importance of this issue, and was able to outline the scale of the diplomatic work this Government is undertaking to reduce carbon emissions globally.
