Regular readers of this newsletter may remember that before Christmas I met with the Chief Executive of HSBC to discuss their decision to close their branch on Harpenden High Street. The loss of bank branches is a concern for many in our community and one of the reasons this is such a concern is the ability for people to access cash and for people and businesses to deposit cash on the High Street.
That’s why I am delighted that - as a direct result of our conversation - HSBC have begun the process of installing a “Cash Pod” in their old site on Harpenden High Street. This Pod will allow HSBC customers to deposit cash and provide a new place for everyone to withdraw cash. I look forward to seeing the positive benefits this will bring, and I continue to campaign to secure a full banking hub (more on that below!).
