Despite the very difficult challenges facing communities around the world, there is still good news to be found.
Thanks to funds raised by Harpenden Spotlight on Africa, the school in east Uganda built by the charity now has a multi-purpose hall and the first of two dormitories. These facilities give the 1000 children an indoor setting to eat their meals and take exams, and a dorm to provide an alternative to the long arduous journeys to and from school.
The HSOA health clinic serves thousands of patients every month providing vital immunisations to babies and new mothers, maternal health advice and a busy outpatient service. The outreach service has been a lifesaver over the Covid-19 lockdown in Mbale. It was humbling to visit the projects of this extraordinary charity last September and now, with many fundraising activities stalled by Covid-19, the survival of the school and clinic is under threat.
